Network Backup Daemon automatically backs up a network of UNIX-basedmachines to a single high-density tape. Network Backup Daemon workswith any storage device, including high-density back up devices such asExabyte 5.0 GB 8mm tape drives and DAT GB 4mm tape drives.Backups are performed using standard dump and rdump commands. NetworkBackup Daemon writes an index block at the beginning of the tape tosimplify restores; monitors the dump output for errors or clients thatare not reachable on the network, or that have gone down during the dumpprocess; and sends mail to the system administrator in the event of anyunexpected difficulty.An optional executive summary report can be produced from the output ofthe process summarizing transfer rate and tape utilization for each filesystem, and for the overall unattended backup.
